基爾科努米是赫爾辛基附近的一個小鎮(zhèn)，建于15世紀(jì)的圣邁克爾教堂是一座石頭教堂，它是這座城市的中心。在教堂旁邊，JKMM改造了舊城圖書館，創(chuàng)造了一個全新的城市整體。老圖書館經(jīng)過徹底整修和擴建，使圖書館的面積增加了一倍。

基爾科努米圖書館代表了芬蘭新一代的圖書館，圖書館不再是關(guān)于書籍，而是如何讓所有人都能獲取知識。知識又是從各種各樣的形式和媒介而來，這樣也同時改變了建筑的使用方式，圖書館變成了市民的見面場所和城市客廳。

基爾科努米圖書館有三個入口與城市產(chǎn)生聯(lián)系，一樓向中世紀(jì)教堂展開，將教堂的景色引入圖書館。圖書館的主要空間的墻壁和屋頂是由混凝土元素構(gòu)成的，密集的立面結(jié)構(gòu)將光線過濾到空間之中。JKMM為項目設(shè)計了建筑和室內(nèi)。

Kirkkonummi is a small town near Helsinki. 15th century stone church, St. Michael’s Church,stands as the heart of the city. Next to the church, JKMM has transformed the old city library to create a new urban whole. The old library has been thorougly renovated and a new extension has been built to make the library twice the original size.

Kirkkonummi Library represents a new generation of Finnish libraries. Libraries are no longer about books, but how to make knowledge accessible for all. Knowledge comes in all forms and media. This also changes the architecture: libraries have become meeting places, living rooms for the citizens.

Kirkkonummi library has three entrances to link it to the city. The ground floor open towards the medieval church, bringing the view of the church into the library. The main space of the library is made of concrete elements, which form both the walls and the roof. The dense structure filters in the light into the space. JKMM has designed both architecture and interiors for the project.
