Architectkidd has completed the design of Megapark, a recreational and retail center for the Megabangna shopping complex in Bangkok, in collaboration with landscape architects Landscape Collaboration.
Megapark是新一代商業(yè)空間,響應(yīng)了不斷演變的郊區(qū)發(fā)展和特點。該項目在現(xiàn)有購物中心三層上引入公共設(shè)施、公園、購物區(qū)和休閑區(qū)。建筑設(shè)計中的挑戰(zhàn)是將一個以前封閉和私有化的商業(yè)空間轉(zhuǎn)變成更加外放,更加歡迎公眾和社區(qū)的空間。
Megapark is a new generation of commercial space that responds to the evolving suburban development and characteristics. The program introduces communal facilities, park, shopping and recreational areas across three levels to the existing shopping center. The challenge in the architectural design was to transform a formerly closed and privatized commercial space into a more extroverted and welcoming one for the public and community.

Architectkidd’s design consists of an elevated platform that connects from the shopping center and out towards the exterior landscape. The architecture acts as a conduit between interior and exterior as well as a new public space that interacts with the outdoor areas and gardens.

Megapark establishes a distinct identity yet is highly connected to the existing shopping mall. In contrast to the solid and big box, the new design aims to create a sense of lightness and permeability. The use of steel was informed by local footbridges and simple pedestrian infrastructures found all over Bangkok.Architectkidd and structural designers Aurecon transformed this precedent into an open framework that forms an integrated architectural and structural system to accommodate public activities and programs in a landscape setting.
設(shè)計主體材料為20cm×20cm鍍鋅鋼柱,柱間距100cm。鋼柱為走道、頂篷、系統(tǒng)和項目空間提供結(jié)構(gòu)支撐。重復(fù)的1米間距是為了避免典型的大型商業(yè)建筑所需的建筑網(wǎng)格和系統(tǒng)。鋼架表現(xiàn)出獨特的自然韻律,框架的寬度和高度逐漸變化,在整個建筑中起起伏伏。結(jié)果是,賦予購物中心全新而連貫的公眾認同與存在,但又不像是單一龐大的建筑物。相反,該建筑是由一種更流動,更自然的建筑方法創(chuàng)造,以一種熟悉的人類尺度提供更親密的空間。
The main material of the design is composed of 20cm x 20cm galvanized steel columns that are spaced 100cm apart. The steel columns provide structural support for walkways, canopies, systems and program spaces. With the repetitive 1-meter spacing, the goal was to avoid typical construction grids and systems needed for large commercial buildings. The steel frames create a natural rhythm of their own, with widths and heights of the frames gradually changing in a way that ebb and flow throughout the building.The result is a new public identity and presence for the shopping center that is coherent but not like an imposing and monolithic object. Instead, a fluid and more natural architectural approach is created to provide more intimate spaces with a familiar human scale.
Megapark的建筑也設(shè)計成一種綠色腳手架——每個立面都能容納垂直植被。搭配種植和景觀設(shè)計,建筑形成了室內(nèi)和外部空間的環(huán)境過濾器。Megapark的設(shè)計可以使日光和微風(fēng)滲透到建筑中,在熱帶氣候中促進自然通風(fēng)的使用。
The architecture of Megapark is also designed to be a kind of a green scaffold - every elevation can accommodate vertical vegetation. Together with the planting and landscape design, the architecture forms an environmental filter for the interior and exterior spaces. The design of Megapark allows for daylight and breezes to permeate the building and to promote the use of natural ventilation in a tropical climate.
從最初的Megabangna購物中心建成至今已超過10年,東南亞的零售和城市環(huán)境在這段時間里發(fā)生了重大變化。Megapark為該地區(qū)的購物中心模式帶來了變革的愿景,同時也為嘗試商業(yè)、社區(qū)和公眾相結(jié)合的新方法提供了機會。
It has been over 10 years since the original Megabangna shopping center was built and the retail and urban environment in South East Asia have significantly changed in that time. Megapark brings a vision of change to the shopping center model to the region as well as an opportunity to experiment with new approaches that combine commercial, community and public.
