Most travelers have already noticed the latest smartphone accessory: the selfie stick. They have been forbidden in museums around the world. The reason is that museum managers fear that museum goers will damage paintings and other artwork with the sticks. For example, a man visits a museum sporting a selfie stick. After taking a selfie standing next to the remains of an ancient dinosaur, our hero turns around too quickly, hits the bones of the dinosaur starting a domino-like(多米諾骨牌)falling down.
The term “selfie stick” was one of Googles hottest search terms, increasing by 19 times over searches in the previous year. Though the selfie stick trend came from Asia, where they are made and widely used, the selfie also shows an American culture. Americans are not shy about showing what is great about their country.
The selfie stick is an extendable metal stick that is designed to hold a smartphone at one end, to allow the user to operate the camera at a distance about three feet beyond his or her hand.
Selfie sticks are popular at sporting events and tourist hotspots in addition to museums. They are inexpensive with the higher-priced models costing only about $20. Many are made in China. Some have three “l(fā)egs” allowing them to stand up. The cheapest selfie sticks simply extend the users reach and require that the phones camera timer be used to put off the cameras photo action. The selfie stick is also fun to use. There is no need to over-think about the selfie stick: it is a simple tool that lets people put their own faces into photographs, no less, no more.
