篇首語(yǔ)
《世界建筑》的讀者朋友,
本期的《世界建筑》再次聚焦于文革以后的中國(guó)當(dāng)代建筑師個(gè)體。
30余年的改革開(kāi)放在中國(guó)的當(dāng)代建筑界造就了一種有趣的雙群體結(jié)構(gòu),按照曾經(jīng)的稱呼方法,一個(gè)群體被稱為“體制內(nèi)建筑師”,一個(gè)群體被稱為“體制外建筑師”。過(guò)去一般認(rèn)為,“體制內(nèi)建筑師”為我國(guó)的城市化進(jìn)程承擔(dān)了更重大的責(zé)任,“體制外建筑師”為我國(guó)的當(dāng)代建筑吸引了更多的西方關(guān)注。顯然,這種二分法的結(jié)構(gòu)與觀點(diǎn)在當(dāng)代中國(guó)建筑的發(fā)展進(jìn)程中都正變得越來(lái)越過(guò)時(shí)。
李曉東教授就是一位無(wú)法納入這一二分法結(jié)構(gòu)的建筑師:他在清華大學(xué)的全職教席決定了他的毋庸置疑的“體制內(nèi)”身份,而他的完全自主化的(甚至有時(shí)連業(yè)主都不需要的)實(shí)踐卻宣稱了他的不折不扣的“體制外”習(xí)性。他是當(dāng)代中國(guó)建筑界完全以好奇心引領(lǐng)個(gè)人探索的“獨(dú)行者”之一。
然而,我們今天對(duì)李曉東教授的建筑實(shí)踐感興趣,并不因?yàn)樗且晃弧蔼?dú)行者”,也不因?yàn)樗@得的一連串令人印象深刻的國(guó)際大獎(jiǎng),甚至不因?yàn)樗挠巫哂谝?guī)范與慣例之外的建成作品本身,而是他的建筑觀點(diǎn)——建造主體對(duì)所在自然局部的有意識(shí)反省。事實(shí)上,我們更愿把李曉東教授為數(shù)并不眾多的作品看成是以建造的方式表達(dá)的觀點(diǎn)而不是建筑,是對(duì)人棲居于自然的方式的精神研討而不是物質(zhì)解答。
李曉東教授可能不是一位典型的中國(guó)當(dāng)代建筑師,但他的實(shí)踐卻是中國(guó)當(dāng)代建筑走向更加包容的多元化、更加鮮明的個(gè)性化的典型個(gè)例。

In this issue of World Architecture,we focus again on an individual in contemporary Chinese Architecture.
Three decades of open-up policy and economic development has created a unique bi-party structure in Chinese architecture According to the once popular notion,one party is called "the institutionalized architects",the other "the un-institutionalized architects" The cliché used to be that it is "the institutionalized" that were taking most responsibilities for Chinese urbanization and it is "the un-institutionalized" that were catching the eyes of the westerners Nowadays,with the changing terrain of Chinese architecture,both the bi-party structure and the role models associated with it seem to be getting outdated.
LI Xiaodong is someone that doesn't fit into this bi-party structure His fulltime professorship in Tsinghua defines his "institutionalized" identity His incredibly autonomous (so autonomous that sometimes there is even no client at all) practice discloses his "un-institutionalized" persona He is one of the mavericks in contemporary Chinese architecture whose adventure is led entirely by curiosity.
Yet it is not the maverick character that makes us so interested in LI Xiaodong's practice,nor the impressive list of the big international trophies he has claimed,nor his buildings that eludes common regulations and norms It is his architecture idea,the self-conscious self-reflection on the local natural context,that makes us so In fact,we'd rather regard the handful of built works by LI Xiaodong as built arguments than buildings They are more spiritual inquiries on the question of human dwelling in nature than material answers.
LI Xiaodong may not be a typical contemporary Chinese architect But his personal quest renders a typical example of the inclusiveness and individualism of contemporary Chinese architecture
