著名導(dǎo)演懸念大師艾爾弗雷德·希區(qū)科克（Alfred Hitchcock）1934年在倫敦曾根據(jù)查爾斯·貝爾特和D.B.溫德漢的小說執(zhí)導(dǎo)過一部黑白片《擒兇記》。1956年，他又重?fù)爝@一題材，為派拉蒙影片公司重拍了一部彩色寬銀幕影片《擒兇記》。影片講述一對美國的醫(yī)生夫婦帶著一個年幼的兒子正在摩洛哥的阿拉伯人聚居區(qū)觀光，目睹一個法國人遭到謀殺。法國人在彌留之際將內(nèi)情告訴了這位麥昆醫(yī)生，于是麥昆醫(yī)生成了一項間諜陰謀的知情人。間諜組織綁架了他的兒子作為人質(zhì)，要挾他保持沉默，麥昆夫婦為營救兒子，毅然投入了一場揭露間諜陰謀的搏斗。

本片是希區(qū)科克又一懸疑力作，維持一貫的緊張、刺激。其實發(fā)生在異國風(fēng)情中的驚險故事本身并無多少精彩之處，只有一些小細(xì)節(jié)設(shè)計得相當(dāng)不錯：像在刺殺行動的關(guān)鍵時刻，以音樂的爆發(fā)為刺殺信號以掩蓋槍聲是片中不多見的精彩創(chuàng)意;而且壓軸的一場音樂廳謀殺高潮戲更具有高度刺激性。詹姆斯·斯圖爾特（James Stewart）和多麗絲·戴（Doris Day）在片中的表現(xiàn)搶眼，其中多麗絲·戴在片中演唱的由瑞·埃文斯（Ray Evans）作詞、杰伊·利文斯頓（Jay Livingston）作曲的插曲“Whatever Will Be， Will Be ”更是傳唱甚廣，流行一時，并獲奧斯卡最佳電影插曲金像獎。在影片中麥昆夫人的扮演者多麗絲·戴就是唱著這首“Whatever Will Be， Will Be ”給囚禁中的小兒子發(fā)出信號，而最終將其帶出險境。
