Everywhere you go, the pig is a part of our daily life. Theyve even recently become a favorite family pet, especially1 the pot-bellied2 pig. These days we turn them from our best friends to our favorite fun and fat animal everywhere.
History of Pig Day
Pigs have been around us since long long ago, and have been an important part of our lives, with a history going back to nearly as far as the dog. This holiday was first celebrated3 in 1972 by a pair of sisters, one from Texas, one from North Carolina.
These sisters found out the importance4 of pigs in every day, and that these animals deserved5 a day to place as one of the smartest animals. Pigs are fun loving as well. Considering6 how important the pig is to economies7 across the world, its no surprise that Pig Day has caught on all over the world.
Celebrating Pig Day
The celebration of Pig Day happens all over the world but is celebrated by most people in the American Midwest, and its the home of the holiday. If you happen to be in Illinois, you can enjoy celebrations all over the state. In New York City, in the Central Park Zoo, on National Pig Day you can see many of pot-bellied pigs in the zoo.
Wherever you are you can go to the petting zoo or adopting8 a new friend. It is easily the best way to celebrate this holiday. If you happen to live on Long Island, they celebrate it in a little different way. They will not eat pigs but have a big special Pig Day Meal. There is a special treat9 for the pot-bellied pig for those families that own one. Pig Day is a chance10 to learn about the importance of pigs.
