Sky News presenter Jacquie Beltraoshows offher £11,000faceliftto celebrate five years of being cancer-free.The former Olympic gymnast,53,had the six-hour operation in December after she admittedchemotherapyhadagedher.
Jacquie,who returned to our screens just three weeks later, said, “In January, I had my five-year test for breast cancer.I thought I would celebrate the year.My first day back at work was before Christmas.I felt great.I'm more confident.It reallyfreshened upmy face.I can feel fine.”
“I did this for me but if it helps extend my career that is a bonus.” Jacquie, who works for Sky NewsSunrise,saidwomen still face pressure to look younger on TV,while men can have a successful career without having to maintain(保養(yǎng))their looks.She said,“You can have any number of men who are old, fat,grey, wrinkly—they're always going to have a job.If a female looks like that, probably not.”
Jacquie wasdiagnosedwith breast cancer on Christmas Eve in 2013 and had amastectomyweeks later.She said,“I took six months off work and had five rounds of chemotherapy.”By the fifth one,She felt like she had togo throughit again.She wasprescribedTamoxifen,which helps stop the cancer cells from growing.She said, “Chemo isn't great.I was pale,grey and quite thin.Tamoxifen hits yourhormones,elasticitygoes out of your skin.You feel like a ghost.”
Four years after treatment,she began to notice a difference on camera.Jacquie was encouraged by skin expert Lesley Reynolds to visit Harley Street.Her Sky News colleague Kay Burley, 58, had also had the same procedure a few years ago.She also said she saw broadcaster Carol McGiffin, 58, adding, “She'd just had one done,it looked really good.That gave me the inspiration and Ibookedit.”She had a lower facelift at Harley Street Skin Clinic and 20 days later she hosted a 21st birthday party for her daughter.
Jacquie was also inspired by family in Brazil who she visits with her husband Eduardo.She said, “His mum looks really young.So many people look fantastic then you realize they're on their third facelift.Nobody judges like they do here.”
