Is there anything we can do to help ourselves when we are hurting? From personal experience, I think there is.
If we’re feeling down, I believe it works out best to turn on some good music, read some1)uplifting books, exercise, and be around people who are happy.
I remember well when our son Todd died. I did everything I could to fill my mind with2)positive things. I listened to good music and positive tapes that would help me feel better3)mentally. I even took up4)jogging and joined a fun5)fitness group to feel better physically.6)Clinical7)depression runs on both sides of my family. I knew I could not afford to open the door and go down that depressing path. I had to be8)proactive!The choice was mine!
I could have sat around feeling sorry for myself, but who would have been helped from that? Certainly not me! I could have been around other people who were down too. After all,9)misery loves10)company. I’m not saying to tell nobody about things that hurt us. But spending an11)excessive amount of time talking about them is depressing, not only to oneself, but for others too.
I also started to reach out to help other people. I went to nursing homes注1,group homes注2and also had12)foster kids. When I got my mind off of myself and reached out to others I was helped and so were they.
So is there anything we can do to help ourselves when we’re hurting? I believe from personal
experience there is.

not only...but (also)... 還……”,連接兩個(gè)簡單句時(shí),not only可以放在句首,表示強(qiáng)調(diào),這時(shí)句子要用部分倒裝,而but (also)后的句子用正常語序。例如:
