Today was the last day of Day 4 of the DNC, but I wasnt ready to leave! Tonight would be historic, which I would remember forever.

To start off the day, we took the TIME shuttle as usual. One of the things Ill miss most is Paul, the shuttle driver, who offered us Rice Krispies Treats every day. He even gave them to the Secret Service officers standing guard outside the Wells Fargo Center. The moment Paul dropped us off yesterday, I headed to the stadium to watch Katy Perry rehearse (排練) “Rise” and “Roar,” then went back to the media tent. I then grew excited because, in two hours, I would be interviewed by FaceTime about what I thought about the convention (大會(huì)) and what the experience was like for me. Then they would broadcast it on TV and post it to their website!

After my interview, we headed out for lunch. Everybody took pictures in front of the American flag at the Instagram booth when we finished eating. It started to dump rain with loud thunder though it was extremely hot outside. Even walking across the street was a challenge.

We took our seats in the stadiums press gallery and patiently watched the many speeches there. Celebrities like actress Chlo? Grace Moretz spoke. Chelsea Clinton introduced her mother, Hillary Clinton, too. The best part was when Hillary Clinton walked on stage. The crowd went crazy. She addressed topics like education and jobs, and tried to appeal supporters of Bernie fans. “Your cause is our cause,” she said.

Day 4 of the DNC came to an end, and tomorrow I would leave for San Diego. I learned a lot about politics, and met so many inspirational people over the past four days. I never interviewed Anderson Cooper, but I hope to become a journalist and cover political conventions when I grow up. Maybe then Ill get a chance to meet him!

    25. Why will the author miss Paul?

    A. Because he is kind.

    B. Because he drove him.

    C. Because he helped him most.

    D. Because he stayed with him longest.

    26. What made the author excited?

    A. His visiting the DNC.

    B. His being interviewed.

    C. His leaving the DNC soon.

    D. Watching Katy Perry rehearsing.

    27. What impressed the author most in the press gallery?

    A. The arrival of Bernie.

    B. The visit of many celebrities.

    C. The speed of Chlo? Grace Moretz.

    D. The appearance of Hillary Clinton on stage.

In recent years, little free libraries of all shapes and sizes have popped up. Often built by community members, they could be found on street corners and sidewalks across the United States, hoping to share their book collection with their neighbors. Minneapolis, Minnesota, even hosted the first Little Free Library Festival, where book fans came together to promote literacy in their communities.

For the most part, little free libraries have more in common with book-sharing shelves in hotels, local laundromats, coffee shops and other public spaces than the traditional public library. Based on a philosophy of“take a book, leave a book,” these little libraries can take many forms, from birdhouse-like wooden structures to repurposed newspaper selling machines, Robert Wirsing writes for the Bronx Times.

The little free library organization began when a resident of Hudson, Wisconsin, named Todd Bol built a little one-room schoolhouse, filled it with books and installed it in his front yard to honor his late mother in 2009. Together with a local educator named Rick Brooks, the two began installing little free libraries across Wisconsin and sharing the idea with people across the country.

“Something we long for in this digital age is that connection between people,” Bol tells Margret Aldrich for Book Riot. “I want to show how little free library is about readers inspiring readers. It goes on and on.”

While Little Free Libraries seem like a harmless means to promote literacy by sharing books with neighbors, a few of the roadside lending libraries have caused minor legal problems. Officials in Los Angeles and Shreveport, Louisiana, have told some residents that their homemade libraries violated city codes and that they would have to remove them to avoid being fined.

Still, Little Free Libraries have been embraced by their communities. For anyone interested in making their own at home, the organization has posted helpful tips and guides for building the little book lending boxes in their neighborhoods.

    28. What can we know about the little free libraries in America?

    A. They are state-owned.

    B. They are popular nationally.

    C. They are set up to sell books.

    D. They help those with no books to read.

    29. What is a common character of little free libraries?

    A. They lie where more people gather.

    B. They share a large collection of books.

    C. They compete with traditional public libraries.

    D. They exist mainly in the form of wooden houses.

    30. What is Todd Bols primary aim of building a library?

    A. To remember his dead mother.

    B. To help people form a habit of reading.

    C. To set an example to other communities.

    D. To share his knowledge with other residents.

    31. What does Todd Bol think of the little free libraries?

    A. They deserve peoples help.

    B. They should continue to exist.

    C. They mean a lot to community members.

    D. They should be supported by the government.

    D

Bendablewings covered with overlapping (重疊部分)pieces looking like fish scales could be used to build more controllable, fuel-efficient aircraft, a new study finds.

Nowadays, conventional aircraft typically rely on ailerons (副翼) to help control the way the planes tilt(傾斜)as they fly. However, when the Wright brothers flew the first airplane, Flyer 1, over a century ago, they used no ailerons but wires that pulled and stretched the wood-and-canvas wings, to control the plane.

Scientists have long sought to develop aircraft that can change their wings during flight, just as birds can. However, most previous attempts have failed because they relied on heavy mechanical control structures within the wings. These structures were also complex and unreliable, said Neil Gershenfeld, a physicist and director of the Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT.

The new wing consists of a system of tiny, strong, lightweight modules (模塊). The shape of the wing can be changed uniformly along its length using two small motors, which apply a twisting pressure to each wingtip. These wings are covered in “skins” of overlapping strips of flexible material like fish scales. These strips move across each other as the wings change themselves, providing a smooth outer surface, the researchers explained.

Wind-tunnel tests of these wings showed that they at least matched the aerodynamic (氣動(dòng)) properties of conventional wings, at about one-tenth the weight. Initial tests using remotely piloted aircraft made with these wings have shown great promise, said Benjamin Jenett, a graduate student at the Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT.

The new modular structures the scientists developed could be manufactured quickly in mass quantities and then installed by teams of small robots. These modular structures also can be disassembled more easily, making repairs simpler.

Still, the first aircraft built using this strategy will not be a passenger jet, Gershenfeld said. Instead, the technology will likely first be tested on unmanned aircrafts, leading to aircrafts flying for along times, to help deliver internet access or medicine to remote villages, he said.

    32. Why is the Wright brothers airplane mentioned in the text?

    A. To show the history of aircrafts.

    B. To show the development of wings.

    C. To show the need to improve planes.

    D. To show the structure of conventional planes.

    33. What make planes fly like birds when they tilt?

    A. Their ailerons.

    B. Wires and pulleys.

    C. Changeable wings.

    D. Mechanical control structures.

    34. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?

    A. The shape of the new wings.

    B. The purpose of the overlapping strips.

    C. The working principle of the new wings.

    D. The result of wind-tunnel tests of these wings.

    35. What is the advantage of a plane with the altering wings?

    A. It is lighter. B. It is safer.

    C. It is cheaper. D. It can fly higher.

Brilliant Ideas To Your Home With Style

If you have some time over the summer, you may be thinking about doing a little home improvement and wondering where to start. 36

Here are a few suggestions for it.

    Give Your Rooms A Theme

This is a fantastic way to make your home unique. Take the bedroom for example. How about a Hawaiian theme with the sky, blue walls, and wooden furniture? Or if you have a young daughter you could make her room like a fairy tale kingdom by getting some light, pink curtains and fairy lights to go around the room. 37 They will not thank you for it.

    Buy Some Designer Furniture

If youre looking for something more ostentatious (炫耀的), consider some designer furniture. A three-piece leather suit would go brilliantly in your living room. 38 Buy Hudson Reed Showers. Why stop there? Consider updating your entire bathroom with a new tube.

    39

If you arent technical or artistic, you may look for additional help. We recommend researching an Interior designer. A designer knows exactly what colour rooms need to be. They can help you choose different styles of furniture. They can make a two bedroom bungalow feel like a luxury mansion.

    Some Awesome Tech

If we are talking about new tech, there is no better place to think about them in the kitchen. Sounds crazy? 40 Say goodbye to burning yourself when you try to get that cake out.Or what about a fridge that can make your shopping list simply by sending what you need to your smartphone?

    A. Hire a designer.

    B. Change your room completely.

    C. Or you could get a new designer coffee table.

    D. If you have older children, you neednt change their room.

    E. If so, how can you make your home look and feel incredible?

    F. A kitchen with modern appliance will save your time for cooking.

    G. But how would you like an oven with a door that disappears like magic?

Recently a survey shows that how teenagers worship are film or sport stars as well as Lei Feng, which obviously shocks us great. What puzzles us is why such great people such as Yuan Longping who has made great achievements in his work or contributions to the world are not among children choice of idols. Actually, children know no one else except these stars so TV and Internet they rely on to know about the world shows too much about these stars. So there is doubt that they worship these people most. In my mind, there is no need to worry too much about this. As far as we publicize some great scientists or other important person more often just as we do to film or sport stars, children will become more familiar with them and gradually accept them as their idols.
