My Father’s Eyes

父親之愛相較于母親的細(xì)致與嘮叨，往往顯得隱忍、含蓄。所以，我們常說嚴(yán)父慈母、父愛如山。對于兒女而言，很多人常常是長大成年甚至為人父母后才真正理解父愛的厚重與不易。但無論如何，有父愛就是幸福的，那是一種如鋼似鐵的精神支柱與寄托。然而，不是所有人都能幸運(yùn)地享受到父愛。譬如英國搖滾布魯斯歌手Eric Clapton，他一生未與父親謀面，中年又嘗喪子之痛，這種無父愛眷顧、親情又無處安放的痛苦全都寄托在歌曲《父親的眼睛》（My Fathers Eyes）里。

這首歌由三段人生經(jīng)歷組成。第一段，生命降臨，Clapton的兒子出生（my prince to come），身為父親的他心中充滿了無限希望與愉悅，當(dāng)然也有初為人父的緊張與不安（How will I know him）。對于這位曾深陷毒品與酒精泥潭的歌手來說，兒子的到來無疑是上帝的恩澤，所以歌中他也祈禱the healing rain，希望自己那已失去方向的靈魂得到救贖，并以此來表達(dá)對兒子降臨人世的感恩。

第二段，兒子慢慢長大，Clapton那種為人父的幸福與滿足活靈活現(xiàn)地體現(xiàn)在“As I watch this seedling grow， feel my heart start to overflow”這句歌詞里。隨著兒子漸漸長大，Clapton也從初為人父的局促轉(zhuǎn)向更為深入的責(zé)任感，比如他在歌詞中寫道：“How do I teach him？ What do we play？”盡管有責(zé)任，有惶恐，但這都是身為人父者所獨享的恩惠與甜蜜的煩惱。

然而非常不幸的是，Clapton的兒子在四歲半時失足跌落陽臺，小天使未長大成人就離開了人世，這也正是歌詞“Then the jagged edge appears， through the distant clouds of tears”委婉表達(dá)之意。中年喪子，白發(fā)悲黑發(fā)，其痛苦難以言表。Clapton用“Im like a bridge that was washed away”“My foundations were made of clay”和“As my soul slides down to die”三句歌詞表達(dá)了當(dāng)時的沉痛與絕望，其中第三句又與第一段的“Pray for healing rain to restore my soul”形成強(qiáng)烈對比。

在三段生活經(jīng)歷中，無論Clapton面對的是兒子出生時初為人父的不安，兒子漸漸長大時作為父親的彷徨，還是失去愛子時心中的劇痛，他都選擇望著父親的眼睛（look into my fathers eyes）來求答案、求力量、求解脫。但是，我們從歌曲中不難看出，所謂的look into my fathers eyes，事實上是look into my sons eyes。Clapton后來也解釋說：“In it I tried to describe the parallel between looking in the eyes of my son， and the eyes of the father that I never met， through the chain of our blood.”這其中又流露出歌手本人對遺失父愛的遺憾和對獲得父愛的渴望。

從兒子的眼中，Clapton看到了自己，也看到了自己從未謀面的父親。漸漸走出失子之痛的他終于明白，雖然父親與自己未曾相見，兒子與自己永隔兩界，但是bit by bit，他終于意識到父親和兒子的愛將永遠(yuǎn)伴隨自己左右，通過歌詞“He was here with me”我們能體會到這一點。

這首歌曲發(fā)行于1998年，相對于1992年Clapton剛剛失去愛子時創(chuàng)作的《淚灑天堂》（Tears in Heaven），這首歌顯得輕松、明快些，或許這也是歌手終于悟到其父其子永遠(yuǎn)將伴自己左右后的釋然。
