    Vocabulary,pronunciation and grammar are the three essential components of language,vocabulary being the building material of languages.The famous linguist Wilkins said,“Without grammar,very little can be conveyed; without vocabulary,nothing can be conveyed.” The importance of vocabulary is strongly manifested.Therefore,vocabulary teaching has been the focus of English teaching.Nevertheless,inappropriate vocabulary teaching can result in boring vocabulary learning.

    One of the tasks of primary English teaching proposed in “English Curriculum Standards of Compulsory Education” (2011edition) is “To encourage students to be interested and confident in English learning.Besides,teachers should be concerned about students efficient study strategies,independent study abilities and good habits of study.”Therefore,every English teaching is thinking about how to stimulate students interest in vocabulary learning,which is also the issue popular at home and abroad.

    Being the assistant teaching method,games can improve the present situation of junior English vocabulary teaching through creating a relaxing study environment and help students to get over their emotion impediment.More and more scholars have become interested in games used in education.With the development of humanism,games in teaching are theoretically supported.Games can lead to meaningful vocabulary teaching specifically.

    Vocabulary teaching plays an important role in junior English class.However,in the present,some vocabulary classes are boring and exhausting.Many English teachers may have such kind of feeling that although they spend much time and energy in vocabulary teaching,there is little effect.Game teaching is a good way to teach vocabulary in a more interesting and more efficient way.It has many benefits:helping to cultivate students interest in vocabulary learning; helping to improve students efficiency in vocabulary learning; helping to develop a close relationship between teacher and students.Everyone can participate in the game,which brings up a sense of equity and helps students overcome their shyness in English class.Different methods should be applied in different situations.There are different sorts of games,which should be applied in different phases of vocabulary teaching:new words presentation,words drilling,words revision.Method can be called right only when it is applied in the right thing.Nevertheless,no teaching method is perfect,so is the game teaching method.Many factors should be taken into account when designing a vocabulary game,otherwise game is just time-wasting:the number of the people who take part in the game; the time how long the game lasts for; place; condition,etc.Besides,junior English teachers should never give up making every effort to improve every vocabulary game and coming up with more new games.
