青春

Youth is not entirely1 a time of life； it is a state of mind； it is not a matter of rosy checks， red lips or supple2 knees； it is a temper of the will， a quality of imagination， a vigor3 of the emotions； it is the freshness of the deep springs of the life.

青春不是年華，而是一種心態(tài)；不是玫瑰般的臉龐，紅潤(rùn)的雙唇和敏捷的雙腿，而是堅(jiān)毅的意志，豐富的想象力，以及無窮的激情。青春是生命深處的一股清泉。

Youth means the temperamental4 predominance5 of courage over timidity， of the appetite of adventure over the love of ease. This often existed in a man over sixty more than in a man of twenty. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

青春意味著勇氣多余怯懦，青春意味著喜歡冒險(xiǎn)而非樂于安逸。擁有此種品質(zhì)的人之中，六十歲的老人往往多于二十歲的年輕人。沒有人只因年齡的增長(zhǎng)而衰老，大多數(shù)往往是因放棄理想而老去。

Years may wrinkle6 the skin， but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry， doubt， self-distrust， fear and despair—these bow the heart and turn the spirit back to dust.

歲月留痕，只及肌膚，激情不再，皺起心靈。焦慮，疑惑，畏縮，恐懼和沮喪都會(huì)挫傷心靈，磨損意志。

Whether sixty or sixteen， there is in every human beings heart the love of wonder， the sweet amazement at the stars and the stars-like things， the undaunted7 challenge of events， the unfailing child-like appetite for what-next， and the joy of the game of living.

不管是六十歲的白發(fā)老人還是十六歲的青春少年，每個(gè)人的心里對(duì)新奇事物都充滿著喜愛，對(duì)星星和類似星星的東西皆有好奇之心，敢于挑戰(zhàn)，對(duì)未知事物有著孩子般的渴求之心，樂于享受生活帶來的樂趣。

You are as young as your faith， as old as your doubt； as young as your self-confidence， as old as your fear； as young as your hope， as old as your despair.

我們因擁有信仰而年輕，因心存疑慮而年邁；因相信自己而年輕，因恐懼畏縮為年邁；因充滿希望而年輕，因滿懷沮喪而年邁。

In the central place of your heart there is a wireless station， so long as it receives message of beauty， hope， courage， grandeur8 and power from earth， from man and from the infinite9， so long are you young.

人人心中都有一座無線電臺(tái)，只要接收到來自地球、來自人類，來自宇宙的美好，希望、勇氣、莊嚴(yán)和力量，就會(huì)變得年輕。

When the wires are all down， and all the central places of your heart are covered with the snows of pessimism and the ice of cynicism10， then， and only then， are you grown old indeed.

當(dāng)心靈的天線塔倒塌，并且你心靈中央的地方被悲愴消極的大雪覆蓋，被憤世嫉俗的冰凌包裹，那時(shí)，唯有那時(shí)，你才真正老去。
