Douglas Grace talks about his ideal city of the future：

I see the city of the future in three zones—inner， middle and outer. In the inner zone there will be no private cars. Public transport will be free and there will only be ambulances， fire engines， taxis and police cars. This inner zone will be the residential （住宅的） and recreational （娛樂(lè)的） area of the city. People will live there and go out to enjoy themselves—to cinemas and restaurants. There will be parks and open spaces， trees and lakes， schools and universities. This way， when people are at home， they can go out easily and safely.

Just outside the inner zone there will be big car parks for all private cars. The banks and most of the shops and hospitals will be in the middle zone. These are things that people dont need every day.

All the factories and offices will be in the outer zone. People will travel out of the center to work， and back to the center in the evenings. The inner zone will be cleaner and better to live in and there will be more space for industry on the outside.

This is my ideal city of the future—a very beautiful place！But I dont really think things will ever be like that！

It feels like every time my mother and I start to have a conversation， it turns into an argument. We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly， my mother will push the conversation into World War III. Shell talk about my lack of a bright future because I dont plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment， I dont want to do any job related to science， either. In fact， when I was pushed to say that I planned to major （主修） in English and communications， she nearly had a heart attack.

Many people say that they are working too many hours. They dont have enough time to relax or to stay with their family.

Work hours are different from one country to another. In France， people spend about 1，646 hours a year at work. In Japan， however， people work about 2，159 hours a year. That means a Japanese worker works 513 more hours a year than a French worker.

Why do people work so many hours？ Some people work extra hours because they want to make more money. However， many companies dont pay overtime. Their workers dont get more pay for more work. For better eyesight （視力）， doctors advise limiting （限制） the hours of screen time and encourage having enough eye resting time.

However， another study shows that sitting in front of computer or TV screens for long hours is not the only reason for myopia （近視）. An Australian research team studied young children in Sydney and Singapore to find the reasons for myopia. The research team found that there were less children who had myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore， even though they spent more time in front of computer and TV screens. The major finding is that children in Sydney spend longer hours on outdoor sports than those in Singapore.

Indoor and outdoor sports both make the eyes pay attention to more distant （遠(yuǎn)處的） objects， which stops the eyes from changing original shape. But outdoor sports may be better than indoor sports for myopia. Because natural light is good for eye growth and vitamin （維他命） D from the sunlight might be useful to it. Many doctors suggest that every child get its first eye test when he / she is about two and half years old， and even if his / her sight seems good enough. It is necessary for myopic （近視的） children to wear glasses to stop headaches， trouble reading and so on. It is also important that schools invite doctors to test their students eyes.
