Thomas Edison,the famous scientist and inventor,was born on February 11,1847 in Ohio,USA.

世界著名科學(xué)家和發(fā)明家愛(ài)迪生于1847年2月11日出生在美國(guó)俄亥俄州。

His father was a descendant of the Dutch.His mother,a Scottish woman,used to be a primary school teacher.When Edison was 7 years old,his father failed in his business.Then his family moved to Michigan,and they settled there.

他的父親是荷蘭人的后裔，母親曾當(dāng)過(guò)小學(xué)教師，是蘇格蘭人的后裔。愛(ài)迪生7歲時(shí)，父親經(jīng)營(yíng)生意虧本。于是全家搬到密歇根州并定居下來(lái)。

One day,a conductor grabbed Edison’s ears to help him get on the train.That’s why he was deaf all his life.

一天，一個(gè)列車員抓住愛(ài)迪生的兩只耳朵助他上車。這一行動(dòng)導(dǎo)致了愛(ài)迪生成為終身聾子。

He went to school at 8.After no more than 3 months,he was sent home by his teacher for being “fool”.From then on,his mother acted as his“family teacher”.Thanks to his mother’s good teaching methods,he became extremely interested in reading.Then not only did he read widely,he also read at a surprising speed.

愛(ài)迪生8歲上學(xué)，但僅僅讀了三個(gè)月的書，就被老師斥為“低能兒”而攆出校門。從此以后，他的母親成了他的“家庭教師”。由于母親的良好的教育方法，他對(duì)讀書產(chǎn)生了濃厚的興趣。他不僅博覽群書，而且一目十行。

When he was 12,he was selling newspapers on the train,at the same time he dealt in fruits and vegetables.Whenever he had time he went to the library.He bought an old printing machine,and began publishing his own magazine—“Herald”.His first magazine was printed on the rain.

12歲的時(shí)候，愛(ài)迪生在列車上賣報(bào),他一邊賣報(bào)，一邊兼做水果、蔬菜生意。只要有空他就到圖書館看書。他買了一架舊印刷機(jī)，開始出版自己的周刊——《先驅(qū)報(bào)》，第一期周刊就是在列車上印刷的。

He earned the money in the baggage car and established a chemical laboratory here.He created numerous inventions all his life such as the bulb,gramophone singing Barrel and so on.

他用在行李車上掙得的錢建立了一個(gè)化學(xué)實(shí)驗(yàn)室。他一生創(chuàng)造了不計(jì)其數(shù)的發(fā)明，例如電燈泡和唱筒型留聲機(jī)等。

On October 21,1929,the 50th anniversary of the invention of bulb,people held a grand celebraion for Edison.Albert Einstein and Marie Curie and other famous scientists went to congratulate him.Unfortunately,in this celebration when Edison replied,because of over-excitement,he suddenly lost consciousness.Since then,his health deteriorated.

1929年10月21日，在電燈泡發(fā)明50周年的時(shí)候，人們?yōu)閻?ài)迪生舉行了盛大的慶祝會(huì)，阿爾伯特·愛(ài)因斯坦和居里夫人等著名科學(xué)家紛紛向他祝賀。不幸的是，就在這次慶祝大會(huì)上，當(dāng)愛(ài)迪生致答辭的時(shí)候，由于過(guò)分激動(dòng)，他突然昏厥過(guò)去。從此，他的身體每況愈下。

On October 18,1931,this great scientist who made great contributions to human kind died of illness at the age of 84.

1931年10月18日，這位為人類做出巨大貢獻(xiàn)的科學(xué)家因病逝世，終年84歲。
