——The 10th anniversary of journal of magnesium and alloys"/>
Fifteen years ago, when I first discussed the establishment ofJournal of Magnesium and Alloys(JMA) with Prof.Karl Ulrich Kainer from Germany, the establishment of JMA was just a dream. In a flash, fifteen years have passed, and it has been ten years since the establishment of the Magnesium Alloy Journal. The dream has not only become a reality, but the impact on the Mg academic research and industry has exceeded our imagination.Over the past decade, many great events have occurred in the world.COVID-19 had kept many people away from the society, the war in local areas has exacerbated the energy crisis, and environmental changes have increased the concern for life and health.JMA has provided a new communication platform for the magnesium industry, let the energy industry see a new way to make breakthroughs in energy storage technology, and let the health industry find new development opportunities.JMA has begun to guide the high-quality development of the magnesium industry, which is playing an increasingly important role in the material industry and economic development.
Over the past decade,Journal of Magnesium and Alloysexperienced rapid growth in popularity and impact, has published a total of 992 high-quality papers (update in June 2023),becoming the world’s most authoritative platform for publishing research and development achievements in the magnesium field.JMA is the first English journal focused on magnesium materials in the world, sponsored by National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys(CCMg),Chongqing University of China, and Chinese Committee of Magnesium and Its Applications (CCMA).It was indexed by the Science Citation Index (SCI) in 2018.The impact factors of JMA increased rapidly from 4.523 in 2018 to 17.6 in 2022,ranking No.1 among the 78 journals in Metallurgy &Metallurgical Engineering category (Fig.1).JMA has demonstrated significant growth in both its reputation and publication output in the past years (Fig.2).The number of JMA published papers per year has increased from 46 papers in 2013 to~300 papers in 2023.The proportion of JMA highly cited papers (published during 2018–2023.09) has reached 7.62%(Source: Essential Science Indicators (ESI),update in Sep.2023),much higher than the other journals in the Metallurgy&Metallurgical Engineering category, indicating JMA leads the research hotspots in magnesium field.
Over the past decade,a large number of achievements published inJournal of Magnesium and Alloyshave been applied, leading to the academic development in the Mg field and promoting the rapid development of the magnesium industry [1–10].Research progress on magnesium based hydrogen storage materials and magnesium battery materials from Chongqing University has attracted much attention [11–14],leading magnesium based energy materials to be the new research hotspots. The review of solid solution strengthening and plasticizing theory has guided the design and development of high-performance Mg alloys effectively [15].Research on low-cost and high-performance casting Mg alloys from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Chongqing University published on JMA [16–20],has promoted the application of magnesium alloys in automotive industry effectively.Several researches on Mg-based Biomaterials from Helmholtz Zentrum Hereon and Chongqing University have attracted more and more attention [21–25],promoting magnesium alloys to be one of the most potential biomedical materials. At present,JMA has achieved a close connection between magnesium researchers and the magnesium industry. With the publication of a lot of valuable Mg papers on JMA,several extra-large enterprises in China, such as China Baowu Steel Group Co.,Ltd.,and Qinghai Salt Lake Co.,Ltd.,have invested in magnesium industry.
