略談介詞out of, out from, from的選用

英語(yǔ)中表示“行動(dòng)的起點(diǎn)”的常用介詞有out of， out from， from，三者均有“從……（出來(lái)）”的含義，有的學(xué)生一聽(tīng)到或看到漢語(yǔ)中含有“從……（出來(lái)）”之意， 就會(huì)不假思索地選用out from。如翻譯“獵人看見(jiàn)有只狐貍從樹(shù)叢中出現(xiàn)”這句話時(shí)，不少學(xué)生把它譯成：The hunter saw a fox come out from the bushes. 此譯句中，他們誤以為out是“出來(lái)”，from是“從，從……出現(xiàn)”的意思，自然就是out from。顯然，學(xué)生是犯了逐字對(duì)譯的錯(cuò)誤，忽視了out與from連用時(shí)的特殊用法。那么，漢譯英中含“從……（出來(lái)）”的意思時(shí)，out of， out from， from三者中，選擇哪一個(gè)才比較恰當(dāng)呢？本文擬就這一問(wèn)題略述幾點(diǎn)。

一、句中表示行動(dòng)的起點(diǎn)始于“某建筑物”，強(qiáng)調(diào)“從內(nèi)部到外部”時(shí) 要用out of。例如：

They walked out of the shop. （從店內(nèi)走出店外）他們走出商店。

He ran out of the house. （從房屋之內(nèi)跑出來(lái)）他跑出房子。

I saw the gun pointing against the window as we pulled out of the garage. 當(dāng)我們從車庫(kù)之內(nèi)把車開(kāi)出時(shí)，我看到槍指著窗戶。

二、句中表示行動(dòng)的起點(diǎn)是“某一區(qū)域”，其含義是“從某地方來(lái); 從某地出發(fā)”，應(yīng)選用from。例如：

I came here from my hometown. 我從家鄉(xiāng)來(lái)到此地。

They will start from the school. 他們要從學(xué)校出發(fā)。

We are going from Shanghai to Beijing by train. 我們將乘火車從上海去北京。

三、句中表示行動(dòng)的起點(diǎn)始于“某物”， 其含義是從“某處下來(lái);從某物取出”，這時(shí)，可用out of也可用from。這類句子中，out of與from可相互替用。例如：

The boy took a knife from the pocket. / The boy took a knife out of the pocket. 這男孩從口袋里拿出一把刀。

He jumped out of the bed. / He jumped from the bed. （從床上跳下） 他跳下床。

四、句子表達(dá)的是“從某物的某處出來(lái)”時(shí)，應(yīng)選用out from， 可此介詞詞組不能直接用到句子中，out之后要用雙介詞，即復(fù)合前置詞，其結(jié)構(gòu)是：out+from+prep.+n.， 常見(jiàn)的有：out from behind the door從后門出來(lái);out from under the table從飯桌底下出來(lái);out from among the tree從樹(shù)林中出來(lái)等。例如：

The dog came out from behind the door. 狗從門后出來(lái)。

The cobra crawled out from under the table. 眼鏡蛇從飯桌底下爬出來(lái)。

A hare ran out from among the trees. 一只野兔從樹(shù)林中跑出來(lái)。

五、句子表達(dá)“從……之中出來(lái)”時(shí)，可用out of也可用out from among，此處of=from among，所以二者可相互換用。例如：

The thief rushed out of the crowd. / The thief rushed out from among the crowd. 小偷從人潮中沖出來(lái)。

根據(jù)第四、五點(diǎn)，本文前面提到的句子：“獵人看見(jiàn)有只狐貍從樹(shù)叢中出現(xiàn)”應(yīng)譯為：

The hunter saw a fox come out from among the bushes. / The hunter saw a fox come out of the bushes.

不可譯為：The hunter saw a fox come out from the bushes.
