Unit 1? Weak Tina travelled to Enjoy Chinese Festival

Tina， an American girl， was weak but love reading. One day she read a book about festivals. From the book she knew about a wide range of the features and origins， most of which reflected religious beliefs and faiths of different nations. Besides， she found that Harvest Festival is connected with agriculture. People in many countries celebrate Harvest Festival and are grateful to the life after gathering the crops. In terms of Christmas， western people go to churches which are beautifully decorated to sing Charistmas carol. But some businessmen took the advantage of the media and made some festivals commericial， which was horrible. In spite of this， festivals are significant. Tina thought the most typical festival was Chinese Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month， when people dress up with joy， and march on the street， guessing riddles. She longed to visit China though her health was fading away.

She set off for China， where she absolutely enjoyed the? atmosphere of Chinese festivals， especially Naadam Festival in Inner Mogolian Autonomous Region. People were merry on the eve of the festival. On that day players wrestled in special robes. A man with good figure called John won the game， given an eagle as the prize. Tina clapped loudly for him even though many people went off. The moment John saw Tina， he found her familiar.

After knowing each other， they found they had a lot in common. John invited Tina to attend his wedding. On that occassion， Tina observed many people wearing fancy costumes to express congratuations. They gave John red envelopes containing money， which represent their good wishes. Tina had tasty hot pot. Before returning to USA， Tina taught the Johns how to roast the trukey， make American pudding and mashed potatoes， In brief， respecting local cultures， Tina travelled merrily.

弱女子游歷中國為過中國節(jié)

美國姑娘蒂娜身體弱但她喜歡讀書。有一天，她讀了一本有關節(jié)日的書。從書中，她了解到它們一系列的特點和起源;大部分的起源都反映了不同民族的宗教信仰和信念。并且她意識到豐收節(jié)跟農業(yè)有關。不同國家的人在收割了莊稼后都慶祝豐收節(jié)和感激生活。就圣誕節(jié)而言，西方人去裝飾得很漂亮的教堂唱圣誕頌歌。但是一些商人利用媒體，把一些節(jié)日弄得很商業(yè)化;這是很恐怖的。盡管這樣，節(jié)日是有意義的。她認為最典型的是中國的節(jié)日如農歷正月15的元宵節(jié);在這個節(jié)日里，人們高興地穿上盛裝，在大街上游行，猜謎語。雖然她的身體逐漸變弱，但是她希望去中國。

她出發(fā)了來到中國，在中國她確實享受到中國節(jié)日的氣氛，特別是內蒙古自治區(qū)的“那達慕”大會。在這個節(jié)日的前一夜，人們就很高興。在那一天，運動員穿著特別的衣袍在摔跤。一個身材很好的叫做約翰的男人贏得了比賽，被授予了一個雕作為獎品。盡管很多人離開了但蒂娜仍為他大聲地鼓掌。當約翰一看到蒂娜的時候，他覺得她很面熟。

彼此認識后，他們發(fā)現他們有很多的共同點。約翰邀請蒂娜參加他的婚禮。在那個場合，蒂娜觀察到很多人穿著精致的服裝去祝賀。他們給約翰一個含有錢的紅色的信封，這代表他們的美好祝愿。蒂娜品嘗到了美味的火鍋。蒂娜回美國之前教約翰夫婦怎么烤火雞，做美國布丁和土豆泥?？傊?，尊重當地的文化，蒂娜旅行地很開心。

Unit 2 A Good Physician without Lap

Tim， who always won scholarships， was an energetic student with great moral and virtue. As his parents had little income， he used the scholarships to pay for his tuition fees， which carried him through school years. Because of his good academic grades， he was never rejected by any clinic when applying for a job as a doctor. Finally， he was hired by a good hospital as a physician. He tended to patients carefully. Therefore， for decades， per patient was satisfied with his good skills and responses to their personal requirements. He also published some books which were illustrated by himself. Because of his good principles， the staff of the hospital elected him as chairman to replace the former one， who had retired. Tim was perfect except for sharp tension with his wife， which put his marriage in a dilemma. His wife， who worked in a kindergarten， was always in despair and complained that he always broke his promise that they would travel together.

Buying a gold chain for her in memory of their love， Tim responded that he would keep a flexible balance between life and work. From then on， they often walked in the court or chatted in the café after work. One midnight， after having an operation， he walked home， tripped over a dog and was bitten by it. At that moment， a car which was running at full speed abruptly showed up， hit him and faded away. Luckily， with the first aid from a passer-by， he was saved but lost his left lap.

The news scared his wife and she came to the hospital in tears. Tim was negative first but he adjusted soon. Two days later he whispered to his wife，“Anyway， I didnt pass away.”After his recovery， he used the majority of his savings and insurance to found a charity to help people without laps. One of his patients doing business about import and export donated much money to it. Surprisingly， a few years later， Tim， a physician without left lap，was able to travel to the North Pole with his wife.

失去大腿的好醫(yī)生

Unit 3 Jane Saved Her Uncle with Chinese Traditional Medicine

Jane often received packages from her uncle， an American resident. They contained many neat items， jeans， boots， fortune cookies and super cheese， to name but a few. Her uncle headed to American to seek fortune with his father when he was very young and they lived in a district having a mild climate. At first， he got a job in a jazz bar in the downtown to earn a living. When he was older， he wrote a series of articles with diagrams for a journal and he wore suits to work as a comic at weekends. Finally， he solved his financial problem. One day， he bought some mushrooms. After eating them， he was poisoned. Unluckily， a famous physician told him he would pass away soon. The moment Jane heard the news， she got a collection of things and flew to visit her uncle at once.

Jane went to the construction where her uncle settled. She gave some chinas as gifts to her uncle which she had selected carefully in China. Every day， energetic Jane took good care of her uncle， reading Tang Poetry for him and folding the page after they finished reading. Apart from these she used herbal materials to make soup for him. The moment her uncle saw the soup， he rejected to drink it.

Jane claimed he couldnt escape from the death as American doctors couldnt cure his disease brought about by the mushrooms. If he drank the soup， the percentage of survival was 100%. Afterward， her uncle agreed and Jane fed him at first hand. Definitely， he felt better， even curiously asking Jane what the herbal materials were. Jane admitted them as Chinese traditional medicine. After recovery， Janes uncle returned to China with her to truly appreciate diverse Chinese culture.

用中醫(yī)萬里救人

簡經常收到她的叔叔、一位美國公民寄來的包裹。里面包含很多極好的東西，僅舉幾例：牛仔褲、靴子、幸運曲奇和超好的奶酪。在她叔叔很小的時候，他就跟著他父親出發(fā)去美國闖世界了。他們住在一個氣候溫和的地區(qū)。剛開始，為了謀生，他在市區(qū)的一間爵士酒吧找到了一份工作。年紀大點的時候，他為一家報紙寫了一系列帶有圖表的文章， 并在周末穿著西服做一份喜劇演員的工作。最終，他解決了經濟問題。一天，他買了一些蘑菇。吃了后，他中毒了。不幸的是，一位名醫(yī)生告訴他會去世。簡一聽到這個消息，馬上收拾了一堆東西飛去看她的叔叔。

簡去到她叔叔住的地方。她送了一些瓷器作為禮物給他的叔叔;這些瓷器是她在中國精心挑選的。每一天，精力充沛的簡照料她的叔叔。她給他讀唐詩，讀完后把讀過的地方折起來。除了這些，她用一些草藥材料做湯給他喝。她叔叔一看到就拒絕喝這東西。

簡聲稱因為美國醫(yī)生醫(yī)治不好他蘑菇引起的病，他逃脫不了死神。如果他喝了這個湯藥，他存活的幾率就是百分之百。然后，她的叔叔同意了，簡親自喂他喝。毫無疑問地，他感覺好多了，他甚至好奇地問簡那些草藥材料是什么。簡承認那是中藥。康復后，簡的叔叔跟著她回中國去真正地品味多元的中國文化。

Unit 4 Short Jim with an Ambition to Become an Astronaut

Jim was independent and intelligent. One day， his teacher said the resources on the earth were limited and asked the students whether it would be possible for mankind to explore more frontiers beyond the globe. Jim had been attaching importance to collecting data about rockets and satellites and had done a lot of researches. As a result， the teacher asked him to answer this question. Jim claimed that it was likely according to current technology， because mankind had launched satellites to orbit the Sun and used other vehicles to explore the Universal space. Meanwhile， in the hope of becoming an astronaut， he signaled that he desired to explore the Universe. At that moment， some shallow students laughed at him， arguing that Jim was very short. It resulted in Jims being disappointed.

After using the tissue and towel to wipe his tears secretly， Jim still determined to realize his dream. As for the selection procedure for astronauts， it was ok to be short. Every day he carried on his regular study pattern， mastering more knowledge about the solar system. With his sufficient knowledge， he was admitted by an astronaut college. However， he was not selected by the Space Agency to carry out tasks on board because he lacked muscles.

He was determined to make his body much stronger. Otherwise， he would not be chosen as an astronaut on board. A monitor was bought to monitor his work-out by him. More importantly， he figured out how to recycle limited resources on board to provide for astronauts and invented facilities to produce oxygen. In closing， because of his strong body and mental mind， he was chosen to be an astronaut to explore the Universe.

人矮志高的宇航員

吉姆獨立又聰明。一天，他的老師說我們地球上的資源有限，并問學生人類是否有可能在地球之外探索更多的開發(fā)領域。吉姆一直都重視收集有關火箭和衛(wèi)星的資料并且已經做了許多研究。因此，老師讓他回答這個問題。吉姆宣稱根據目前的科技是有可能的，因為人類已經發(fā)射了衛(wèi)星圍繞太陽運行，并用其他的交通工具探索宇宙空間。同時，懷著成為宇航員的希望，他暗示他渴望去宇宙探索。這時，一些膚淺的學生嘲笑他，爭論道：吉姆很矮。這導致吉姆的失望。

用紙巾和毛巾偷偷地抹掉眼睛后，吉姆仍然決定實現他的夢想。就宇航員的挑選程序而言，矮是沒有問題的。每天他繼續(xù)他的常規(guī)學習模式，掌握更多有關太陽系的知識。因為有了足夠的知識，他被一個宇航員學院錄取了。然而，由于他缺乏肌肉，他沒有被太空機構選去宇宙飛船上執(zhí)行任務。

他決定讓他的身體更強壯。否則，他不可能被選去宇宙飛船上做宇航員。他買了一臺監(jiān)控器來監(jiān)控他的身體鍛煉。更重要的是，他弄明白怎么回收宇宙飛船里的有限資源為宇航員提供生活所需，并發(fā)明了設備來制造氧氣。最后，因為他的強壯的身體和精神，他被選為宇航員去太空探索。

Unit 5 The Real Value of Money

William was willing to do anything with the intention of being rich. He sold plastic dinosaurs to kids， served as a tailor in a judges family， and acted as a servant in scenes in the opera. These didnt permit him to earn much money. In that case， he took out a loan to open a company. As a matter of fact， his friends thought he was odd on the basis of what he had done， making a bet that he would fail to pursue his dream. He ignored them and never expected they would apologize. With his broad mind， he ran his company well. He indeed hugged success and married a woman from the upper class. One day， he was thinking about how to maintain his company in a new manner when going downstairs. He fell down by accident and rolled down from the stairs.

A clerk on duty spotted him. He didnt hesitate to carry him to a hospital aside. To be honest， he had severe external injury which wouldnt threaten his life. Staying in bed made him think what is being rich. With all elements considered， he thought beneath his heart that a person with patience and kindness is rich to some extent. After becoming normal， he made an option to give away his money. But his wife objected.

His wife indicated that he ought to keep money for their son in case he couldnt get a good job or lived nowhere. But he plotted well and didnt postpone his plan. Eventually， his wife agreed to his persuasion and helped him set up a charity. They found the real value of money is to help people in need， which also became a saying of their son. Now they live a rich and happy life.

錢的真正價值

懷著變富的意圖，威廉樂意做任何事情。他賣塑料恐龍給小孩，在一個法官家里做裁縫;并在一些歌劇的現場表演傭人。這些并不能讓他賺上很多的錢。在那種情況下，他貸了一筆款開了一家公司。事實上，根據他所做的一切，他的一些朋友認為他很奇怪，打賭他追求夢想肯定是要失敗的。他不理他們，也沒有期待他們會道歉。因為他的廣闊的思維，他的公司經營得很好。他確實獲得了成功并跟一位上流社會的女性結了婚。一天，他下樓梯的時候想著怎樣用新的方式維持他的公司。他意外摔倒了，并從樓梯上滾了下去。

他的太太暗示他應該把錢留給他們的兒子，以防他找不到好工作，無處可住。但他計劃好了，沒有推遲他的決定。最后，他的太太在他的說服下同意了，并幫他成立了一個慈善機構。他們發(fā)現錢的真正價值是幫助有困難的人，這也成為了他們兒子的格言?，F在他們過上了充實而快樂的生活。
