As a photographer, Im interested in all kinds of consumption. What we consume in diet tells a story about our health. Theres a lot of talk and a growing awareness about the healthy eating, and thats why I start a project called “Daily Bread”. Ive asked kids and parents to keep a journal of everything they eat in a week. Once the week is over, I copy the meals and take photos of the child with the food. This project tries to make people focus more on their way of eating, and serves as a promoter for the diet revolution.
Food is a central part of our lives, however, were often too busy to give much thought to what we eat or how it affects our health. The food nowadays has created the increasing of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, colon cancer and other health problems, and the main factor is empty calories—high energy foods with little nutritional value, mainly in junk foods. If we want to live a high quality life, wed better learn to make the right choices about what to eat and how we eat.
When it comes to what to eat, wed better think whether the food will give us the nutrients we need. Some nutrients help build our body. Protein, for example, is good for our muscles, like fish, meat and beans. Calcium, which is found in eggs, milk and other dairy products, is good for our bones and teeth. We should also eat carbohydrates, the main fuel for our body, which are mainly from bread, rice and noodles. Other nutrients, such as fibre and minerals, help keep our body working well. Vitamins, which we can get from vegetables, fruits, fish and milk, help our body fight diseases.
Because we have so much to choose from, how to eat properly becomes quite important. Follow the advice below to start eating properly. Firstly, eat fewer unhealthy fats and empty calories, which are mainly found in chips, animal fats, and many frozen foods. Next, eat the right amount. Eat when youre hungry, stop when youre full, and avoid eating too much. Last, avoid “crash diets”. These types of diets may produce obvious effects at first, but its unlikely to be something you can follow in the long run.
Its obvious that food has become more important to people. In the beginning, it was for energy that people relied on food, but now it has become one of the signs of human progress, and thus more attention has been paid to the differences in diets and habits between different cultures.
