做最好的自己

If you cant be a pine on the top of the hill，

Be a scrub in the valley—but be

The best little scrub by the side of the rill;

Be a bush if you cant be a tree.

If you cant be a bush be a bit of the grass，

And some highway happier make;

If you cant be a muskie then just be a bass—

But the liveliest bass in the lake！

We cant all be captains， weve got to be crew，

Theres something for all of us here，

Theres big work to do， and theres lesser to do，

And the task you must do is the near.

If you cant be a highway then just be a trail，

If you cant be the sun be a star;

It isnt by size that you win or you fail—

Be the best of whatever you are！

如果你不能成為山巔的一棵勁松，

就做山谷里的小樹吧——但務(wù)必

做溪流邊最好的一棵小樹;

如果你不能成為一棵樹就做一叢灌木，

如果你不能成為一叢灌木就做一片綠草，

讓公路也有幾分歡娛。

如果你不能成為一條大梭魚就做一尾鱸魚吧——

但要做湖里最活潑的小鱸魚！

我們不能都做船長，必須有人當(dāng)船員，

每個(gè)人都有自己要做的事兒，

有的事情大，有的事情小，

而你要完成的任務(wù)就近在咫尺。

如果你不能做一條大道就做一條小徑，

如果你不能做太陽就做一顆星星;

決定成敗的不是你的大小——

只要你做最好的自己！

作者簡介

道格拉斯·馬羅奇（1877—1938），美國詩人、短篇小說家。1877年，馬羅奇出生在美國密歇根州的馬斯基根，這個(gè)地方是當(dāng)時(shí)有名的伐木業(yè)中心。他在伐木工人中享有一定的名聲，被稱為“伐木工的詩人”。
