Beijing Interstellar Glory Space Technology Ltd.(iSpace) successfully performed the inaugural orbital flight of its SQX-1 (Hyperbola-1) launch vehicle from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on July 25,2019,which is a breakthrough for China’s private owned launch vehicle.SQX-1 weighed 31 t at launch and is 20.8 m long with a 1.4 m maximum diameter.SQX-1 was designed to lift 260 kg to sun synchronous orbit.
Several companies subordinated to CASC participated in launch activity of the private owned launch vehicle. The Li-ion batteries used in SQX-1 were supported by the Shanghai Institute of Space Power-sources of SAST.The Liion batteries have a sound discharge rate and environmental adaptability, high reliability and safety. The batteries worked normally and functioned well during the launch mission.
National Spacecraft Industry Measurement and Testing Center owned by Beijing Orient Institute of Measurement and Test (BOIMT),CAST was in charge of the rocket launching angle calibration, which is a metrological work with extremely high accuracy requirement, and has direct influence on rocket liftoff and spacecraft orbit injection. After studies and optimization of test scenarios over and over again, the test team and product developers made a detailed implementation procedure, supported which guaranteed the rocket trajectory and accurate orbit insertion of the piggybacked spacecraft.(ZONG Xuan/China Space News)
