A Californian Sixth-grade Student Won 2019 NASA Langley Art Contest

We can express our inspiration and imagination1 in many ways， especially in the world of art. Roa Lee is a sixth-grade student from California， and she explored2 her imagination about the future human spaceflight3 and created a work that won the grand-prize for NASAs Langley Research Centers annual Student Art Contest.

我們可以用很多方法表達(dá)自己的靈感和想象力，尤其是在藝術(shù)的世界里。羅亞·李是一名來(lái)自加利福尼亞州的六年級(jí)學(xué)生，她探尋了自己對(duì)未來(lái)人類(lèi)航天事業(yè)的想象并為此創(chuàng)作了一幅畫(huà)作，在美國(guó)國(guó)家航空和宇宙航行局蘭利研究中心舉辦的年度學(xué)生藝術(shù)比賽中獲得特等獎(jiǎng)。

“I was inspired by the theme of exploration because I imagined what it would be like for someone like me to become an astronaut4，” Roa Lee said.

羅亞·李說(shuō)：“我受到了‘探索這一主題的啟發(fā)，因?yàn)槲以胂筮^(guò)像我這樣的人成為一名航天員的話(huà)，將會(huì)是什么樣子?！?/p>

It was the first time that Roa had attended this competition. Before she learned about this contest， she didnt really have much interest in space because she never learned much about it in school.

這是羅亞第一次參加這種比賽。在知道這場(chǎng)比賽之前，她對(duì)太空真的沒(méi)有什么興趣，因?yàn)殛P(guān)于太空，她在學(xué)校里沒(méi)有學(xué)過(guò)太多相關(guān)的知識(shí)。

“However， when I was doing research on what kind of artwork to make， I became more interested in space，” she said. “I think it would be really cool to visit space one day and explore different planets outside of Earth. There is so much to learn that we havent even discovered yet！”

“但是，當(dāng)我在研究創(chuàng)作什么樣的藝術(shù)作品時(shí)，我對(duì)太空越來(lái)越感興趣了，”她說(shuō)?！拔矣X(jué)得，要是有一天能夠去太空探索地球之外的不同星球，真的很酷。有太多我們還未發(fā)現(xiàn)的事物有待了解！”

Hundreds of children in 42 states， the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico handed in 764 works in total. This years art contest theme “Explore” aimed to5 get the students to explore the furthest reaches of the unknown.

來(lái)自42個(gè)州、哥倫比亞特區(qū)和波多黎各的數(shù)百名學(xué)生總共提交了764幅作品。本屆藝術(shù)比賽的主題“探索”旨在讓學(xué)生能夠最大程度地探索未知的事物。

Roas work draws that a young girl dreams about being an astronaut while doing schoolwork. She used different kinds of materials like pencils， watercolor， markers， glue and so on.

羅亞的作品描繪了一個(gè)小女孩在做學(xué)校作業(yè)時(shí)，夢(mèng)想著自己成為一名航天員。她使用了不同的材料來(lái)作畫(huà)，如鉛筆、水彩筆、馬克筆和膠水等等。

Roa said that people always thought of space with math and science， but they didnt connect it to art. “However， I think art is important when it comes to space because you need to be creative in order to think of new ways to help make discoveries，” Roa said.

羅亞說(shuō)，人們總是從數(shù)學(xué)和科學(xué)的角度來(lái)思考太空，但是他們沒(méi)有將其與藝術(shù)相聯(lián)系?！叭欢艺J(rèn)為在談及太空時(shí)，藝術(shù)這門(mén)學(xué)科很重要，因?yàn)橐氤鲇兄诋a(chǎn)生新發(fā)現(xiàn)的新方法，你需要具有創(chuàng)造性。”羅亞說(shuō)。

“Because I am shy， I have a hard time expressing myself by talking to others， but art gives me a chance to show what I am thinking without having to use words， and I think that is really great，” she also said.

她還說(shuō)：“由于我很害羞，在通過(guò)交談向他人表達(dá)自己的想法時(shí)，我會(huì)覺(jué)得困難，但是藝術(shù)讓我有機(jī)會(huì)不使用語(yǔ)言文字就能表達(dá)出我的想法，我認(rèn)為這樣很不錯(cuò)?！?/p>
