·Several Relations to be Addressed in Writing Overview of Special Chronicles：Taking the case of the special chronicles in the second round compilation of Shanghai chronicles

Abstract：Despite the fact that special chronicles share the common features of general local chronicles，they are also characteristic of different industries or systems.Special chronicles cover awide range of subjects，with the contents summarized in the overviews.Due to differences in depth，breadth and height，different leading threads and writing styles are entailed.This paper explores the proper ways to address the nine relations in writing overview of special chronicles by taking the case of the second round compilation of Shanghai chronicles.The relations to be dealtwith respectively are as follows：industries and sectors，before and after reform and opening up，the overview and the untitled introductions，themain industry and the auxiliary industries＆diversified industries，the in and out relation of the city proper，the development of the city＇s industry and the domestic＆international climate，performances and problems，people andmatter，and what it is and why it is.

·Discussion on the Usage of G raphs in the Second Round Com p ilation of Som e Ch ron ic les（Part II）

Abstract：Recently，the author selected four chronicles from four provinces and cities tomake statistics and research on the usage of graphs of the general chronicles，the usage of various types of graphs，the usage of styles of graphs，the usage of various categories of graphs，and the usage of black-and-white and colour graphs and so on.It was found that there are some problems in the usage of photographs and statistical graphs in the four chronicles.This papermakes an analysis to the existing problems，and puts forward some suggestions.For instance，the graphs should be diverse；the usage of graphs in the narration，records，biographies should be increased；the selection of photos and maps should highlight their functions in keeping history，educating people and helping administration；the graphic styles in the chronicles should be unified；the indexes of photos and maps should be compiled and its compilation methods should bementioned in the notes of how to use the book and so on.

·Medical Activities and Medical Skill Inheritance：Based on the Accounts of the Medical Figures in Shanghai Local Chronicles in the Era of the Republic of China

Abstract：Local chronicle，as the literature recording the natural and social conditions in a given area（administrative region），records the political，economic，natural，cultural，historical and current situation of a place，is an encyclopedia of the place and also provides evidence for medical research.By sorting out the information on the medical figures in Shanghai local chronicles compiled in the era of the Republic of China，it is nothard to tell that the recording approach about the medical figures in local chronicles is relatively simple and in a fixed pattern.Most of the materials collected are relative to their family backgrounds，motivation for medical engagement，medical experience，medical performances，and medical works.In general，the focus is on portraying the images of famous physicians and their remarkable medical skills.All in all，the historical literature of medical figures has some characteristics unique to that era.Through textual research，we can get rough ideas about the derivations of different schools in the medical circle as well as the mutual impartment and inheritance of medical skills；while by analyzing the physician’smedical activities，as well as their interaction with local communities，we can have a glimpse of how they fulfilled their social responsibilities and achieved their social ideals through practice.

·The Status Quo of Recording and Theoretical Consideration of Major Events in Village Chronicles：Based on the textual research of ten village chronicles of five districts of Shanghai

Abstract：Village chronicle is an encyclopedia of a village，bearing the great responsibility of recording themajor events of the village.The land reform movement in the 1950s was the firstmajor event since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.As a crucialevent，it changed the political pattern and course of China，deserving a detailedmention in village chronicles.The actual records of the ten village chronicles of five districts are extremely sketchy with some of the important contents left out，failing tofaithfully represent themajor events and historical process of the villages.This inevitably decreases of the value of the village chronicles and weakens the function of recording history.Guidance to the compilation of village chronicles should be strengthened.

Abstract：Shanghai Almanac（1852），the first known almanac in the Chinese Mainland，was edited by North China Herald with high historical values and has been hailed as amini encyclopedia.Shanghai Almanac（1852）has been rearranged and translated by Shanghai Chronicles Office and published in photographic print by Shanghai Bookstore Publishing House.The almanac is featured with characteristics unique to Shanghaiback at that time，and attaches great importance to the practicability of materials，humanistic spirit，and meteorological data.Shanghai Almanac（1852）hasmany implications for the compilation of contemporary.Shanghai Almanac in terms of highlighting characteristics of the times，manifesting local characteristics，representing cultural elements，enhancing practicability，and emphasizing the continuous comparability of materials.

Abstract：Geographical Records of the Song Dynasty：Frontier Regions is a well-known national geographical general record compiled in the early Northern Song Dynasty，and also the first historical document recording the frontier countriesestablished by ethnic groups.Geographical Records of the Song Dynasty：Frontier Regions offers a comprehensive record on the frontier regions before the Song Dynasty based on Du You＇s General Records：Frontier Records，with reference to Wang Pu＇s Records of the Tang，while consulting the official history records and geographical works of previous dynasties.The book contains many historical materials which can’t be found in other literature.It is notonly precious in terms of content and the scattered and lost records，butal so has important historical value for the study of the frontier ethnic groups.At the same time，the book incorporates＂Frontier Regions＂into the general chronicle，reflecting the attempt of historians in the early Song Dynasty to re-establish the orthodox status of the Central Plains Dynasty and reconstruct the order of the Chinese nation and other ethnic groups through history narrative.Itexert ed far-reaching impacton the compilation of the uniformed chronicles of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

·Local Writing and Cultural Expression：Compilation of Xiahe County Annals of the Republic of China and the Frontier Politics

Abstract：In the 1930s-40s，Zhejiang scholar Chang Chi-yun，Magistrate of Xiahe County Li Yongrui，and Gansu scholar Zhu Yunming successively compiled Xiahe County Annals to record the general picture of the local society.In regards to the style and content，they are distinctive from the“paradigm”of traditional local chronicles and official chronicles of the Nationalist Government，leaving behind more or less traces of the transitional age and highlighting themarginality of the text.However，they constructa concrete＂territory，”reflect the property of Xiahe as a frontier region，give prominence to the characteristics of the timeswhen the state power and political consciousness penetrated into the frontier society in the period of the Republic of China，and embody the realistic concern of the writers of local chronicles for the construction of the frontier.Xiahe County Annals reveals the dual expression of Xiahe becoming＂China’s territory＂and remaining a＂frontier region，”implying the contradictions and tensions existing in the textwriting.

·Research on the Scattered and Lost Old Local Chronicles of Shiyan Area

Abstract：Shiyan area is found with local chronicles compiled no later than the Suiand Tang dynasties in large numbers，but a lot of them are scattered and lost.This paper suggests that by combing the existing materials of various local chronicles，series of books and anthologies，identifying the compilation dates，compilers and the dates of scattering and loss of the scattered and lost old local chronicles of Shiyan area，and by combining with the existing and scattered records in Shiyan area，we can better present the compilation genealogy of local chronicles in Shiyan area，further promote the study of history and culture in Shiyan area，and at the same time bring a clearer picture of the development history of local chronicles in China.

·Compilation of Ninghua County Annals of Kangxi Period by the Ming Loyalist Li Shixiong

Abstract：Ninghua County Annals of Kangxi Period compiled by Li Shixiong，a Ming loyalist from Ninghua County，F(xiàn)ujian Province，is regarded as one of the famous chronicles of China.Li Shixiong first compiled the annals on his own.During the Kangxi Period，the Qing government demanded the uniformed compilation of chronicles，thus his private annals were incorporated and modified into official records.This process reflected the influence of the political climate change on the Ming loyalists in the early Qing Dynasty.Li Shixiong struck a balance between being political correctand encompassing the ideas of the Ming loyalists，and the annals are characteristic of the particularities of the Ming loyalists.
