1 ache
熟義:vi.痛,疼痛
生義:vi.(1)為…感到難過,同情 (to feel sympathy or compassion)
如:His heart ached for the starving animals.他為那些挨餓的動物們感到痛心。(2)渴望(to yearn or long)
如:The refugees were aching for their homeland.難民們渴望回到家鄉(xiāng)。
2 adequate
熟義:adj.充足的,足夠的
生義:adj.(1)適當?shù)模瑒偃蔚模╣ood enough, of a quality that is good or acceptable)
如:They are adequate for almost any computing need.他們可以滿足幾乎所有的計算需要。
The old methods weren’t adequate to meet current needs.老方法滿足不了現(xiàn)在的需要。
(2)勉強的,差強人意的(of a quality that is acceptable but not better than acceptable)
如:Her first performance was merely adequate.她第一次的表演只能說差強人意。

3 alone
熟義:adv.單獨地,一個人地
熟義:adv.僅僅,只有(indicating that something is confined to the specified subject or recipient)

4 bathe
熟義:v.洗澡

生義:v.(1)投稿(to supply something, such as an article for a publication)

熟義:失敗,失去
生義:(1)(鐘、表等)走得慢(of a timepiece, go slowly)
如:Please hurry! My watch loses 10 minutes.快點。我的表慢了10分鐘。(2)看不見,聽不見,理解不了(to fail to hear, see, or understand)
如:We lost the plane in the fog.大霧中,我們看不見飛機了。
I lost her when she started speaking about thermodynamics.當她開始講熱力學的時候,我就聽不懂了。

7 mean
熟義:v.有…意圖;打算
生義:adj.(1)不友好的(lacking in kindness; unkind)

(2)卑鄙的、刻薄的(cruel, spiteful, or malicious)
(3)惡狠狠的(expressing spite or malice)

8 mend
熟義:v.修理,修補,縫補(to repair)
生義:v.(1)改進(to improve or undergo improvement;reform)如:He was advised to mend his ways.他被建議改進方法。
(2)(身體)恢復健康(to heal or recover)
如:I'm feeling a good bit better.The cut aches, but it's mending.我感覺好多了,傷口還疼,但在愈合。

生義:n.(1)重大活動,隆重場合(a special event or ceremony, such as birthdays, anniversaries, and other specialoccasions)
如:The party was quite an occasion.那個聚會真的很隆重。
(2)機會,時機(a favorable opportunity or circumstance)
如:Our company did not have occasion to talk with them.我們公司沒有機會和他們談。
10 pale
熟義:adj.蒼白的
生義:adj.軟弱的,無力的;不重要的;較差的(to seem weaker or less important)
