On November 10, 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping(right) met Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two heads of state held talks again on September 13, 2017 and jointly mapped out future cooperation between the two countries to promote China-Brunei relations for greater development in the new era to better benefit the two peoples.
The longstanding friendship between China and Brunei has grown deeper and wider with the passage of time. Last year,Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah made a state visit to China, and consensus was reached between leaders of the two countries on further nurturing bilateral ties, leaving both countries in a great position to strengthen their strategic partnership in the new era.
An “Abode of Peace” and a “shining pearl” along the Maritime Silk Road, Brunei has largely preserved its national and cultural traditions while marching towards modernization. The strategic partnership between China and Brunei has developed steadily, and since the launch of Belt and Road construction in particular, bilateral exchange and cooperation has boomed in all sectors, delivering tremendous benefits and opportunities to both sides.
Today, entering a new era accented by China’s further opening-up and Brunei’s pursuit of diversified economic growth,the countries are working together to align the Belt and Road Initiative with the Brunei Vision 2035 to create expanded space for cooperation in trade, investment and cultural development. The two countries will join hands to compose a new symphony of cooperation along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
