What should good language teachers be like

【Abstract】With the rapid development of society， we are more strict to teachers who are expected to better professional qualities. The essay is talk about what good language teachers should be like from seven aspects.

Most of the time， when it comes to a good language teacher， people firmly believe that a good language teacher should be enthusiastic，learned，perceptive and extremely patient. But thats not enough. A good language teacher is a person who tries their best to teach his/her students how to communicate well with others by useing the language. So he/she must have some necessary qualities. They are as follows.

What goes first is that a good language teacher must love his/her job. If he/she really enjoys his/her job， thatll make the lessons more interesting. Teachers who look fed up or unhappy with what they are doing tend to have a negative effect on their students. When you observe good teachers you will notice that， even if they are feeling terrible， they put on a good ‘teachers facewhen they enter the classroom.

Secondly， a good language teacher should be full of knowledge and study with time going by， especially the professional qualities. Teaching a language is not only teaching the language itself， but also teaching the information disseminated by the language. So the teacher has to be learned otherwise he could not pass it on to his students. A good language teacher will never think that he has enough knowledge but learns all the time.

The third one is careful lesson planning. Good language teachers won't go to the classroom with their lessons unprepared. They often prepare lessons in advance so that class time is not wasted. They will cooperate with other teachers and they will plan their lessons with an eye for state standards and other benchmarks for students' success.

Fourthly， being a good language teacher calls for patience. You have to be extremely patient. Because learning a language maybe a hard and long process. Your students maybe very tired about it， which demands you to be extremely patient and be the model they learn from. Only if you are patient enough， your student can be patient. And if they are patient enough， they will learn the language well.

In addition， a good language teacher is often knowledgeable in assessment and evaluation and are good at applying them at appropriate time with appropriate methods. They wouldn't evaluate or assess students on arbitrary criteria. Instead， they would make the purpose of evaluation clear both to students and their parents.

Whats more. A good language teacher is somebody who has an affinity with the students that theyre teaching.Successful teachers are those people who can identity with the hopes， aspirations and difficulties of their students while they are teaching them. They should try and draw out the quiet ones control the more talkative ones. experienced teachers can tell you of classes which are dominated by bright， witty， loud， extrovert students.

Furthermore， a good language teacher should be able to correct people without offending them. Explaining to students that they have made a mistake is one of the most perilous encounters in the classroom. It has to be done with tact. The teacher has to measure what is appropriate for a particular student in a particular situation.

From all we have talked above， we can easily draw conclusion that it is difficult and strict to be a good language teacher. And that not all， there are also some other qualities that a good language teacher must have， such as patient， optimistic， helpful， influential， charming and so on. Language teaching can be defined as the activities which are intended to bring about language learning. A good language teacher should always think over how to make the teaching more active and be liked by all the students.As an English major， we must try our best to achieve there requirements and to be a good language teacher.
