not only...but also...意為“不但……而且……”，是一個(gè)并列連詞詞組，常用來連接兩個(gè)并列成分。當(dāng)它連接兩個(gè)并列的主語時(shí)，謂語動(dòng)詞應(yīng)遵循“就近原則”，即謂語動(dòng)詞要與離它最近的主語在人稱和數(shù)上保持一致。例如：

Mary can not only sing but also dance.瑪麗不但會(huì)唱歌，而且還會(huì)跳舞。

Her friend plays not only the piano but also the guitar.她的朋友不但彈鋼琴，而且還彈吉他。

The girl is not only humorous but also very lively.這個(gè)女孩不但幽默而且很活潑。

Paul speaks French not only in class but also at home.保羅不但在課堂上而且在家里都說法語。

Not only you but also Tom teaches in this college.你和湯姆都在這個(gè)大學(xué)里教書。

not only...but also...側(cè)重點(diǎn)在but also上，有時(shí)also可以省略。例如：

I not only heard it,but(also)saw it.我不僅聽到，而且也看到了。

【注意】當(dāng)not only...but also...置于句首連接兩個(gè)并列句子時(shí)，前一個(gè)句子要用倒裝形式，而but(also)后的句子仍用陳述句語序。例如：

Not only did he come late,but also he forgot his books.他不但來遲了，還忘了把書帶來。
