September 5, 2017 (Xinhua) — Chinese outbound tourism has witnessed “explosive growth” in the past decade,which is likely to be maintained in the next decade, Ctrip CEO Sun Jie said on Monday. In the first half of 2017, 62 million overseas trips were made by Chinese tourists, the China National Tourism Administration said in a statement last month. Figures released by the World Economic Forum in 2017 showed that tourism last year stimulated the economy by generating more than US$ 7.6 trillion globally,supporting over 292 million jobs, or one in 10 jobs worldwide.

September 9, 2017 (Xinhua) — China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and ASEAN announced the conclusion of the negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement(FTA) and a related Investment Agreement. The announcement was made at the 2ndASEAN Economic Ministers-Hong Kong,China Consultations (AEM-HKC Consultations), co-chaired by HKSAR government’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau and Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry Ramon Lopez, in Pasay City, the Philippines. “Our economy stands to bene fi t from the FTA and the Investment Agreement, which will bring us more and better access to the ASEAN market, create new business opportunities and further enhance trade and investment fl ows,” said Yau.
September 12, 2017 (Xinhua) — The 14thChina-ASEAN Expo opened in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Tuesday, highlighting trade and investment among China, ASEAN and other countries along the Belt and Road.The four-day event attracted over 2,700 exhibitors, up 1.5 percent from the previous event, while the number of buyers is expected to exceed 10,000, including about 4,000 international buyers, according to Yang Yanyan from the Expo secretariat. The China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit also opened on Tuesday. The Expo provides 6,600 exhibition booths, an increase of 800 from the previous event.It includes 36 forums in fields such as industrial capacity cooperation, environmental protection, culture, transport and tourism.
September 13, 2017 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on Wednesday, with the two agreeing to promote cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative and work for stronger bilateral ties. “China appreciates Brunei's efforts in strengthening China-ASEAN relations, and hopes to align the Belt and Road Initiative with ASEAN's development plan,” said Xi. The two countries have established strategic cooperative ties, cemented political mutual trust and achieved fruitful cooperation over the years. China-Brunei ties are at a key stage of development, Xi said, adding that China is ready to share governance experience with Brunei, synergize their development strategies and promote closer cooperation in various areas.
September 15, 2017 (Xinhua) — The Philippines announced on Friday that it would send its economic managers to China to promote the government’s planned multi-billion-dollar infrastructure projects later this month. In a statement, the Department of Finance said that a team of economic managers led by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez will bring the Duterte administration’s so-called “Build, Build, Build” roadshow to China to promote the government’s planned Golden Age of Infrastructure. The statement said that Dominguez and the rest of the team will meet with Chinese officials to discuss preparations for the Philippines’s big-ticket infrastructure projects that would be partly funded by China. The Duterte administration is planning to spend up to 9 trillion pesos (US$175.7 billion) on the program over the next fi ve years.
September 15, 2017 (Xinhua) — Dozens of experts and scholars from China and Vietnam gathered here on Friday,discussing experience in party building and state governance.The Workshop on Party Building and Governance of Vietnam and China in the New Period was jointly held here by the Institute of Chinese Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam.Addressing the workshop, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong said that exchanges of experience in party building and state governance between China and Vietnam constitute an important part of cooperation between the two parties and two countries. The academy’s Vice President Dang Nguyen Anh said both Vietnam and China have made great achievements in reform and opening-up, which are inseparable from the importance attached to the party building and state governance by the two countries.
September 16, 2017 (China Daily) — China’s second biggest E-commerce company JD.com and Top Thai retailer Central Group will jointly invest US$ 500 million in establishing two joint ventures in Thailand covering E-commerce and fi ntech services, respectively, a statement from Central Group said on Friday. According to the statement, Central Group will invest US$ 250 million in the ventures, and the rest will come from JD.com, JD Finance and Provident Capital,which is also JD.com’s strategic partner for its Indonesian E-commerce business. JD.com will provide technology,E-commerce and logistics support to the E-commerce joint venture and provide its knowledge in financial technology sector to the fi ntech services joint venture.
