Whether it’s a family1)get-together, or a casual evening out with friends, being able to tell a story seems like a great way both to pass the time and impress your audience.
As a storyteller, it may feel good to tell someone else your problems. We often tell stories as a way to2)soothe our hurt feelings, disappointments, or feelings of having made a mistake.
But how could you make yourself a great storyteller? Here are some tips.
1. Set the context. The very first words should introduce such details that a good reporter would include,3)namely who, what, why, where, and how.
2. Rehearse what you want to say before you start. You don’t have to read out a4)script every time you tell your story, but you might want to run it through in your mind.
3. Be considerate of the people in your story. If you’re talking about someone else, you should make sure that you’re not5)revealing secrets about that person.
4. Pay attention to the impact you’re having on others. If you have a truly sad story to6)relate, be sure that you don’t go on for so long and you don’t put stress on that listener.
Telling stories is a natural and enjoyable part of social7)interaction. When you tell those stories with these tips in mind, you and your listeners will be able to gain fulfillment.
