Christmas in July is an event which is unofficially celebrated as a holiday by people. It is especially popular among the young people. A Christmas in July dinner usually includes Christmas Decorations1, Christmas Candles, colorful streamers2, candies, Christmas hats and whistles3.
During the summer months in the northern hemisphere4, the weather becomes increasingly hot and many people wish for the atmosphere5 of cooler temperatures, gift giving, and holiday spirit. To satisfy this need, some people hold parties during the month of July like the holiday of Christmas.
In many western countries, July has few marketing opportunities, so to justify6 sales, shops will sometimes announce a “Christmas in July” sale.
In some parts of Australia, where Christmas falls in the summer and July is the one of the coldest months, Christmas in July parties are held just like the traditional northern Christmas. Some traditional Christmas activities are difficult to have in the December summertime, so these may be held in July instead. In Australia this celebration is also called “HalfChristmas”.
In the United States, it is more often used as a marketing tool than as an actual holiday celebrated by ordinary people. Television stations may choose to rerun Christmas specials, and many stores have “Christmas in July” sales.
