A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws[爪]. A timid[膽小的]little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in her fright[受驚]and haste[匆忙]to get away, ran across the Lion’s nose. Roused from his nap[小睡], the Lion laid his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill her.

“Spare[饒恕]me!” begged the poor Mouse. “Please let me go and some day I will surely repay[報(bào)答]you.”

The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go.

Some days later, while stalking[追蹤]his prey[獵物]in the forest, the Lion was caught in the hunter’s net. Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring[吼聲]. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she gnawed[咬]it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free.

“You laughed when I said I would repay you,” said the Mouse. “Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion.”

A kindness is never wasted.

幾天后，獅子在森林里面追蹤獵物，卻一下子被獵人布下的羅網(wǎng)困住了。無(wú)力掙脫圈套的獅子憤怒地咆哮起來(lái)，吼聲響徹森林。老鼠認(rèn)出了獅子的聲音，馬上跑來(lái)，發(fā)現(xiàn)獅子還在網(wǎng)中掙扎。她跑到綁住獅子的其中一根粗繩跟前不停地咬，直到將繩子咬開(kāi)，獅子很快便掙脫出來(lái)了。

“我說(shuō)過(guò)會(huì)報(bào)答你，你那時(shí)嗤之以鼻，”老鼠說(shuō)?！艾F(xiàn)在你瞧，哪怕是一只小老鼠，也可以給一頭大獅子幫上忙呢?！?/p>
