China Report ASEAN - Myanmar Special comes off the press today. As the Director of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration in charge of the China Report Press, which has compiled and published the Myanmar Special, I would like to extend my cordial greetings and best wishes to readers and friends!
Since ancient times, the people of China and Myanmar have cherished traditional friendship known as “Pawkphaw”. The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, initiated by both China and Myanmar in the 1950s, have today become the basic norm of international relations and international law. For many years, China has persisted in developing a long-standing relationship with Myanmar by following a good-neighborly policy and promoting partnerships with its neighbors, so as to create an amicable, secure and prosperous region. Earlier this century, China and Myanmar declared the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. China's proposal to build the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road brings about new opportunities for the two countries to deepen bilateral cooperation beneficial to both sides.
This year marks the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar. During these 66 years, both China and Myanmar have made great achievements which have led to impressive changes in both countries. In order to see the “Pawkphaw” handed down and developed from generation to generation, they now need to further strengthen exchanges, enhance understanding, develop consensus and deepen cooperation. We started the China Report ASEAN this year to help ASEAN countries, including Myanmar, gain a better understanding of today's China. In addition, we hope to help more Chinese readers understand today's Myanmar, as well as other ASEAN countries. There is a saying in Myanmar: “An island depends on reeds and reeds depend on the island.”China and ASEAN nations have formed a closely linked Community of Shared Future. We should work together for a bright future featuring regional peace and stability, development and prosperity.
