In commemoration1） of the South African revolutionary's passing， here are some of his wise words that remind us all how to be better to each other.

為紀(jì)念曼德拉這位南非革命家的逝世，我們?cè)诖苏x了他的一些睿智名言，以激勵(lì)我們所有人完善自我、善待他人。

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable2） combination. 精明的頭腦和善良的心靈從來都是一個(gè)威力巨大的組合。

Appearances matter—and remember to smile. 外表十分重要——?jiǎng)e忘了微笑。

Does anybody really think that they didn't get what they had because they didn't have the talent or the strength or the endurance3） or the commitment4）？ 難道真的有人認(rèn)為他們沒有成功是因?yàn)樗麄內(nèi)狈Σ湃A、力量、耐心或是沒有全身心投入嗎？

It always seems impossible until it's done. 凡事在成功之前總是看似不可能完成。

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear， but the triumph5） over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid， but he who conquers that fear. 我知道，勇氣并非沒有恐懼，而是戰(zhàn)勝恐懼。勇士并非毫無畏懼，而是能夠征服畏懼。

It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front， especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. 作為領(lǐng)袖，最好站在后方領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，讓其他人站在前面，尤其是當(dāng)有好事發(fā)生你慶祝勝利時(shí)。但在危險(xiǎn)時(shí)刻，你要站在前面。

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling， but in rising every time we fall. 生活中最大的榮耀并非永遠(yuǎn)屹立不倒，而是每次跌倒后都能重新站起來。

No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin， or his background， or his religion. People must learn to hate， and if they can learn to hate， they can be taught to love， for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. 沒有人生來就會(huì)因?yàn)閯e人的膚色、背景或者宗教而仇恨別人。仇恨乃后天養(yǎng)成。既然人們可以學(xué)會(huì)仇恨，那就可以學(xué)會(huì)愛，因?yàn)閷?duì)于人心而言，愛總比恨來得更為自然。

Where you stand depends on where you sit. 你持什么立場(chǎng)取決于你坐的位置。

Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun， one's feet moving forward. 所謂樂觀，就是一直面朝太陽，雙腳永不停步。
