Successful Commissioning of 0.5 Mt/a MTP Unit at Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group

On August 27, 2014 all production units of the 0.5 Mt/a methanol-to-olefins (MTP) project owned by the Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group (SNCIG) have been delivering qualified propylene with a purity of 99.88% and the 1102K-grade PP product to symbolize the successful commissioning of the MTP project at the first attempt.

This project is one of the key construction projects of SNCIG, in which the investment totals around 6.818 billion RMB. This MTP project mainly consists of the MTP unit, the propylene polymerization unit, the power station and the utility facilities, with the MTP technology licensed by Lurgi and the gas-phase polypropylene technology licensed by Lummus. Construction of this project was started in March 2011, and the mechanical completion of the MTP project was realized on June 30, 2014 to be ready for the phase of trial operation using the methanol feedstock. Startup of the said project coupled with the first phase of the 0.5 Mt/a MTP unit, which had come on stream in 2010, will result in a total MTP production capacity of 1.0 Mt/a, with the total PP production increased to 1.0 Mt/a from 0.5 Mt/a.
